## Pick Your Neighborhood by Where You Work

Houston is large and car-oriented, so the best neighborhood for you depends mostly on your office. Choose the corridor first, then the building. This guide pairs Houston’s major employer hubs with the high rise neighborhoods that serve them, using our October 2026 inventory. It is part of our

## Quick Reference

| Employer hub | Best high rise picks | Starting rents | Rail access |
| --- | --- | --- | --- |
| Texas Medical Center | Medical Center, Museum District, Midtown | $1,360–$2,525 | Yes (Red Line) |
| Downtown | Downtown, Midtown | $925–$2,443 | Yes (Red Line) |
| Galleria/Uptown | Galleria/Uptown, River Oaks/Upper Kirby | $1,200–$3,524 | No |
| Energy Corridor | Memorial City, Westlake Park | $1,750–$2,712 | No |

Starting rents are usually studios or lower floors. Drive times vary by hour, so we check routes for your exact office address rather than quoting averages.

## Texas Medical Center

**Picks:** Medical Center, Museum District, Midtown.

The Red Line connects TMC to all three. Latitude Med Center ($1,635) is closest to campus. The Carter ($1,974) and Forme Houston ($1,798, delivered 2026) are nearby. In the Museum District, Boone Manor starts at $1,581 with 2 months free, and Midtown’s Drewery Place starts at $1,360 with 8 weeks free. Residents and fellows should read our guide to

.

## Downtown

**Picks:** Downtown, Midtown.

Downtown is the largest high rise cluster we track, with 12 towers from Houston House ($925) to One Park Place ($2,443 starting). The tunnel system links many office buildings. Midtown is a short Red Line ride south, with Luminary Residences on Main Street.

## Galleria/Uptown

**Picks:** Galleria/Uptown, River Oaks/Upper Kirby.

Post Oak Boulevard towers like Hanover Post Oak (from $1,200), M5250 ($1,294), Camden Post Oak ($2,239) and Aspire Post Oak ($2,249) put you close to Uptown offices. River Oaks and Upper Kirby are a short drive east, with options from SkyHouse River Oaks ($1,330) to The Driscoll at River Oaks, whose top units reach $15,955.

## Energy Corridor

**Picks:** Memorial City and Westlake Park.

The Watt (from $1,750, 3 months free plus $1K in October 2026) sits in Westlake Park. The Fountains at Memorial City ($2,125) and The McKinley ($2,712) are on the Katy Freeway corridor. If you prefer inner-loop life, commuting west against traffic on I-10 is usually manageable. See

## Other Employers

- **Rice University and the Museum District institutions:** Museum District or Medical Center.
- **Greenway Plaza:** River Oaks/Upper Kirby or Montrose.
- **The Woodlands corporate campuses:** 1 Riva Row in Spring (from $2,554) is the high rise option we track.
- **Remote workers:** pick by lifestyle. Montrose for dining and the bayou, Downtown for walkability and rail, the Museum District for parks and quiet.

## Lifestyle Tie-Breakers

When two corridors work for your commute, use these:

- **Walkability and rail:** Downtown, Midtown, Museum District.
- **Newest buildings:** Montrose (three 2025 deliveries).
- **Parks:** Museum District (Hermann Park), Montrose (Buffalo Bayou Park), River Oaks’ west edge (Memorial Park).
- **Top-tier luxury:** River Oaks, Montrose, Galleria.
- **Most specials:** Museum District, Midtown and Medical Center had specials at every tracked tower in October 2026.

2. **6 weeks out:** get a shortlist and video tours.
3. **4–6 weeks out:** apply, often with an offer letter.
4. **2–4 weeks out:** sign, set up utilities, book the freight elevator.

## Budget Picks by Employer Hub

| Hub | Value option | Mid-range option | Premium option |
| --- | --- | --- | --- |
| TMC | Drewery Place ($1,360) | The Carter ($1,974) | Hanover Southampton ($2,525) |
| Downtown | The Rice ($1,053) | Aris Market Square ($1,682) | One Park Place ($2,443) |
| Galleria | Hanover Post Oak ($1,200 start) | Camden Post Oak ($2,239) | Aspire Post Oak ($2,249 start, to $12,320) |
| Energy Corridor | The Watt ($1,750) | The Fountains ($2,125) | The McKinley ($2,712) |

Starting rents from our October 2026 data. Most premium towers run far above their starting figure for upper floors.

## What Transplants Ask Us Most

**“Is Houston really that spread out?”** Yes. Picking a corridor near work matters more here than in denser cities.

**“Do I need a car?”** Probably, unless you live and work along the Red Line.

**“Is it humid?”** Very, from late spring through early fall. Covered garage parking and tunnel or skybridge access are worth more than you expect.

**“Which neighborhood feels most like a city?”** Downtown and Midtown, with the most walkable blocks and rail.

**“Where do families go?”** The Museum District near Hermann Park and towers with 3-bedroom layouts, though many families also look outside the high rise market.
