Concierge Means Different Things
“Concierge” is one of the most used words in Houston high rise marketing and one of the least consistent. At one building it is a 24/7 staffed desk. At another it is a daytime desk with lockers after hours. At a third it is an app. This guide explains what each model actually does. It is part of our high rises with concierge search.

Three Service Models
| Model | Staffed hours | Packages | Guests | Typical buildings |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 24/7 front desk | Around the clock | Desk receives and holds | Desk checks in guests | Top-tier towers |
| Daytime desk | Business hours, sometimes weekends | Desk by day, lockers after hours | Portal or call box after hours | Many A+ towers |
| Unstaffed | None | Smart lockers or package room | Call box or smart lock | Some value and mid-range towers |
We confirm staffed hours for every tower on your shortlist, because they change with staffing.
Package Handling
Packages are the service residents use most. Common systems:
- Smart lockers like Luxer One and Parcel Pending: you get a code by text or email, and pick up any time.
- Package rooms with fob access, sometimes with refrigerated shelves for groceries.
- Front-desk holding for oversized items, signature deliveries and perishables.
Ask about overflow
Lockers fill up around holidays. Ask what happens to packages when every locker is full.

Valet and Dry Cleaning
Some towers offer valet parking, either included or for a fee, and dry cleaning valet with pickup and drop-off at the desk or a locker. These are most common at the top tier.
Guests and Access
At staffed buildings, the desk checks in guests registered through a resident portal. After hours or at unstaffed buildings, guests use a call box, a temporary code or a smart lock. If you host often, ask how overnight guests and visitor parking work.
Other Services to Ask About
- Move-in coordinators and freight elevator scheduling
- Maintenance request portals and after-hours emergency lines
- Resident events and private dining room reservations
- Referrals for dog walking, housekeeping or car detailing
Is Concierge Worth Paying For?
It is if you travel often, receive many deliveries, host frequently or want someone on site at all hours. Downsizers in particular value it. Read downsizing to a high rise.
Questions to Ask on a Tour
- What are the desk’s staffed hours, including weekends and holidays?
- Who handles packages after hours, and what happens when lockers are full?
- Can the desk let in a dog walker, cleaner or contractor?
- Is valet included or extra?
- Are there refrigerated lockers for groceries?
What Concierge Usually Does Not Do
Concierge staff typically do not handle maintenance repairs, enforce lease terms or accept rent. Those go through the resident portal and management office. Knowing the difference helps set expectations.
Cost and Value
Staffed desks cost money to run, so buildings with 24/7 coverage often have higher rents or amenity fees. If you are rarely home or rarely receive packages, a daytime desk or locker system may be all you need.
