What “Concierge” Means Building to Building

Listings use “concierge” loosely. In practice, Houston high rises fall into three groups:

  1. 24/7 front desk: a doorman or concierge on duty around the clock, handling guests, packages and requests.
  2. Daytime desk: staffed during business hours, with key fob access, a visitor management system and an after-hours emergency line at night.
  3. Unstaffed with lockers: smart package lockers like Luxer One or Parcel Pending and a resident portal, but no one at the desk.

All three can be good buildings. They are just different products, and the rent should reflect that. We confirm the actual staffed hours for each building on your shortlist. For a deeper look, read what a high rise concierge actually does.

Services Worth Asking About

Beyond the desk, ask about valet parking, dry cleaning valet, guest registration, a move-in coordinator, private dining room reservations, resident event programming and referrals for dog walking or car detailing. At the top tier, The Driscoll at River Oaks, Hanover River Oaks and Residences at La Colombe d’Or tend to offer the deepest service, but hours and offerings change with staffing.

Who Values Concierge Most

Downsizers and empty nesters trading a house for a high rise often rank a staffed desk near the top, along with package security and guest access. Frequent travelers want someone to hold deliveries. Read downsizing to a high rise for the full checklist.
